This is a view of Havasue creek near our campground and its the first place they can get in
the creek after the 12 mile hike. The students had dinner last night, spent the night in their
sleeping bags, and had breakfast this morning. Today We are taking the students to the
Havasu Falls. It's a short walk from here. The day is warm and is a good day to go
swimming.

This is a place below Havasu Falls where the students can jump from a rock into a deep pool.
Ms. Katie Fahrer watches from the water as one student jumps. Other students are
waiting their turn. Erosion changes these pools each year but they are always fun.
This place is beautiful but our group adds another dimension to it. The combination is another
reason I come back each year.
Hear what this place sounds like with our students.

We take the students to see an abandoned mine. It's very dark in the tunnel but
it's not long. Mr. Warren Cedar tells the students what to be careful of while in the tunnel.
Inside we have them turn off their flashlights and ask them to stop talking for 40 seconds so they can
experience what it feels like not be able to see or hear. It's easy for them to turn off their flash
lights but very difficult to get them to be silent for 40 seconds. Communicating with their peers is
very important to the students at this age. I think its very hard for them to give up two of
their most usful communicating senses even for only 40 seconds. It's an interesing excersize.

These two students were swimming a long time and got cold. Good thing you warm up
fast in this heat. They will be back swimming soon. They certainly don't look bored.
