One year we did the hike back from the Havasu Camground and found we were missing two students. they were with us at the beginning of the hike, but must have lost their way coming up. We (our leader) asked the Havasupai natives for help and they used their helicopter to look for the missing students. There is a fork in the trail on the way up and we tell everyone to keep to the right. There is a sign but it's often laying on the trail at the fork. The natives found the two boys hiking up the wrong canyon and helicoptered them back to us. Now I hike up to the fork in the road, ahead of the students (4:00am), and check off each student, on a list, as they pass by and insure they take the right fork.
